Assalamualaikum wr.wb
Good morning all …
The honorable the judges, the honorable my teachers, the honorable my seniors and my beloved friends . We must give thanks to our god, because of god’s blessing we can stand here until today . First of all , I would like to introduce my self. My name is ……., I sit in ………..,.
My beloved teachers and friends ,
Today I will deliver a speech about smoking entitled “Smoking is a bad habit in our lives”.
My friends,
As we know smoking is one part of the daily activities of the majority of Indonesian society. most smokers know the dangers of smoking but they never tried to stop smoking. Because that, we as the younger generation must be convinced that smoking is bad habits in life. Smoking is a bad habit because of three factors, among others:
1. Contain poison substances
2. causing diseases such as cancer.
3. expensive.
The honorable my teacher and friends,
The first factor of smoking is bad habit is contain poison substance. we should not consume cigarettes because it is not good for health. I’m sure you know there are many substances in cigarette smoke is dangerous. For the example, nicotine substance.. That substance is very dangerous and can cause various diseases. not only dangerous for smoker, it is also dangerous for us if we near the smoker. so if there is a smoker near you. Say to him or her for stubbed him/ her cigarette for a moment with good polite.
My friend,
Next, I will talk about the second factor. That is, smoking cause various diseases like cancer, disorders of pregnancy, fetal disorders, and etc. One of the factor of many Indonesian people who died were smoking. The majority is a student!! Many students who died because of smoking and drugs. It was very disappointed.! one of the young generation died with the wrong way. !
smoking habit also produces behavioral effects that are bad for the smokers. And so many the negative effect of smoking.
My beloved teacher and friends ,
Last, cigarette is expensive. Did you know?? Cigaratte price is 7-10 thousand rupiah or more than it for one pack. Can you imagine a student or a smoker spent his money to buy a pack of cigarettes every day and calculated every week, every month and every year.? If one day for buy a pack of cigarette is 8 thousands , So in one week he spent 56 thousands, in amonth he spent 240thousands and in year he spent 2.880.000 . it just one pack for a day. If 2 ,3, or 4 packs a day??? How many?? So many money , for smoking. This is cause a family got economic crisis and a student can not use his pocket money for school.
Smoking is not positive activity for us, young generation. So guys. From now, let we say “ Go Studying Stop Smoking!” . And be the best student for our country and school. I think that’s all, thank you for your attention.

Assalamuallaikum Wr.Wb.

The honourable,
The judge of English speech contest,
The teacher, brother and sister, and all of the participants of English Speech contest, good morning.
May I tell you, first of all how pleased I’m to have an opportunity to stand here and deliver a speech in front of you. My speech title is …

SEX EDUCATION AT SCHOOL

Teenagers are the most important part of the growth of the country. They are the new generation. However there are many teenagers have been depraved. They run to drugs, commit suicide free sex, drink alcohol, smoking, etc. Those are spreading in teenagers’ life. And the most popular problem is free sex. Many teenagers think that sex before married is proper. We know that it is very bad for them. There are many bad effect of free sex. Such as, we can suffer from HIV/AIDS and then the pregnancy for the girls. It will damage their future.

Teenagers must be given sex education especially at school. The need of comprehension about human sexuality in teenagers’ life must be fulfilled. They must know about free sex life and the sex crime that often happened. They must aware about responsibility of their self. They should get much information about sexuality rightly for them. The information can be given by sex education at school. The teachers can describe sex for the students in order that the teenagers will avoid sex before married.
School is good mediator in giving sex education for the teenagers. School has good condusif situation. School and the teachers are the second circle after the family. It will be better if the teachers hold an event like seminar with a doctor as the speaker. In order that the teenagers can get sex education deeply and give them the aim of sexual activity correctly. With sex education, the teenagers will be careful in doing something about sex. Although they know about how to avoid the pregnancy, put virginity is very important for the woman. Sex before married just makes us fall into a trap. There are some aims of sex education for the teenagers. Which are they can understand that sexuality as the part of life. They also know about the consequences of un-responsible sex activity.
So, sex education is very needed for the teenagers. Starting now, sex education must be given to them. And for sure, the teenagers that fall into free sex. Drugs, alcohol, etc just a few part of many teenagers that want to study hard, and avoiding free sex.
Finally, I would like to convoy my highest appreciation. And heart felt thanks to the distinguished participants and the speakers of English speech contest today. Thank you for your kind attention, and
Wassalamuallaikum Wr.Wb

[Contoh pidato bahasa inggris tentang HIV/AIDS] ;
HIV / AIDS

I am honoured to be invited to address you today on a matter that so deeply affects South Africa, Africa and indeed the whole world.

HIV/AIDS has been with us for about two decades, but it remains a problem whose solution continues to elude us all. We are making some progress in understanding this challenge, but we still have a long way to go in containing its spread.

Although people from all walks of life are affected, AIDS is hitting hard at the most vulnerable sections of our society. It is the poor, the illiterate, the marginalised, the women and the children who bear most of the burden of the HIV epidemic.
The face of HIV/AIDS in South Africa has become more complex over the past 10 years. We are no longer only dealing with information and awareness, but with people that are faced with the reality of living with the disease. The vast majority of them are undiagnosed. Sebagian besar dari mereka adalah undiagnosed. They do not know their HIV status. Some of them are already falling ill but they do not know that their illnesses are related to HIV/AIDS. And even if they do know or suspect, they are reluctant to come out and talk about their condition.
I stand before you today to further consolidate our partnership in responding to this major challenge particularly the stigma that continue to be associated with it. We seek your partnership because we know that every South African citizen, every leader, bishop or priest has a special and unique role to play in combating HIV infection and caring for those living with HIV/AIDS.
The church has always played a role of caring for those who are weak and in need of support. But you have been able to initiate programmes that really make a difference in the lives of those in need of care particularly the children. The care that you have given has ot been limited only to the message of hope and spiritual well-being. I am convinced that the church can play a major role in fighting the stigma that is associated with HIV/AIDS and encourage openness and positive living amongst those who are infected and affected.
To ensure a common direction in the call for partnerships, we initiated the development of the Five Year Strategic Plan for South Africa, in 2000 in collaboration with all the key stakeholders, including the faith-based sector. It is a broad national strategic plan designed to guide the country’s response to HIV/AIDS. The plan outline four priority areas, which are: (1) Prevention, (2) Treatment, Care and Support, (3) Research, Monitoring and Surveillance and (4) Human Rights.
There can be no doubt that the faith based community has a central role to play in the implementation of this plan. There are numerous examples of how the faith sector is responding or can respond to this challenge. I will like to raise for discussion at least four key roles that Faith-based organisations and individual members of those organisations can play in responding to HIV/AIDS.
With regard to Education, we can:
Identify resources and models for prevention education
Strengthen HIV/AIDS prevention through family enrichment
Enhance HIV/AIDS prevention through youth programmes – building a solid foundation concerning sexuality, responsible adulthood and marriage, appreciating the youth and breaking the silence about sex.

On Advocacy, we can:
Campaign against discrimination
Work together with government in achieving appropriate levels of cost-effective health care, especially home based care
Seek means to protect interests of particularly women and children
On Worship, we can
Establish an annual National Day of Prayer and Healing for all persons affected by the epidemic
Establish an interfaith Day of Prayer and Healing Service, we can
Provide care which involves encouraging and supporting those who are infected and affected
Promote ‘Family fostering’ for those who have lost their parents or guardians
Take part in providing home care which may include:
Home visits for prayer and scripture reading
Meeting physical needs for food, clothing, medical attention
Assistance in planning for the future of the family particularly children
Support for orphaned children
Assisting with basic household activities such as shopping, cleaning the house or washing clothes

At the All Africa Church and AIDS Consultation which was held in Kampala in April 1994 a “Call to Action” was developed and signed. Similarly, “A commitment on HIV/AIDS by people of faith”, was signed in Washington that same year. I will like to quote at least one section of this statement of commitment, and I quote:
“We are called by God to affirm a life of hope and healing in the midst of HIV/AIDS. Our traditions call us to embody and proclaim hope, and to celebrate life and healing in the midst of suffering.”

We therefore need to send a positive message about HIV/AIDS. We need to tell people that just because you are HIV positive today, it does not mean you will get AIDS tomorrow and die. Co-factors such as poverty, high levels of mainly childhood malnutrition, vitamin A and iodine deficiency as well as lack of other micronutrients have a major impact on how one progress to full-blown AIDS.
We have to advise those infected and affected by HIV that by eating nutritious food, managing their stress, treating any infection promptly including sexually transmitted infections and using condoms, they can live longer and lead a healthy and productive life for many years.
We need to use this opportunity to declare our response to AIDS:
We are called to love
We are called to be compassionate and care
We should commit ourselves to speaking publicly and promote HIV/AIDS prevention and ABC messages
We should promote and provide care for those who are infected and affected
We should fight the sins of discrimination and stigma
We should work together with other sectors of society to seek ways of eliminating poverty

I strongly believe that if we can leave this conference with a strong re-affirmation as the faith based leaders of this country, we will be able to provide hope for the faith community and for society as a whole: That in the spirit of love, compassion and care, through collective efforts to confront and to challenge discrimination and to empower our respective believers, we can overcome many of the challenges posed to us by HIV/AIDS.

Thank you.

[Contoh pidato bahasa inggris tentang global warming sebagai berikut] :
Global Warming

Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing us today. To protect the health and economic well-being of current and future generations, we must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by using the technology, know-how, and practical solutions already at our disposal.

Tropical deforestation is the largest source of emissions for many developing countries, but slowing deforestation can’t solve the climate problem by itself. As forest-rich developing countries step up to take responsibility for reducing their emissions, all industrialized nations should not only support their efforts but, most importantly, reduce their own emissions and lead efforts to avert dangerous climate change.
For years we have heard so much about the causes of climate change, that we’ve missed the fact that there are simple, practical solutions that can slow this growing problem. Technologies exist today that can cut emissions of heat-trapping gases and make a real difference in the health of our planet. And these solutions will be good for our economy, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and enhance our energy security.
Global warming doesn’t just mean balmy February days in northern climes. It also means increasingly hot days in the summer, and a host of negative impacts that are already under way and are expected to intensify in the
coming decades.

-More heat waves will likely increase the risk of heat-related illnesses and deaths.
-Cities and towns along the nation’s major rivers will experience more severe and frequent flooding.

-Some areas will likely experience more extensive and prolonged droughts.

-Some of our favorite coastal and low-lying vacation areas, such as parts of the Florida Keys and Cape Cod, will be much less appealing as sea levels rise, dunes erode, and the areas become more vulnerable to coastal storms.

-Many families and businesses, who have made their living from fishing, farming, and tourism could lose their livelihoods, and others who love hunting, boating, skiing, birdwatching, and just relaxing near lakes, streams, and wetlands will see some of their favorite places irretrievably changed.

The solutions to climate change are here and it’s time we put them to use. If we get started today we can tackle this problem and decrease the unpleasant outcomes that await us if we do nothing. The steps we need to take are common sense. And, more often than not, they will save consumers money. The cost of inaction, however, is unacceptably high.
The scientific consensus is in. Our planet is warming, and we are helping make it happen by adding more heat-trapping gases, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2), to the atmosphere. The burning of fossil fuel (oil, coal, and natural gas) alone accounts for about 75 percent of annual CO2 emissions from human activities. Deforestation—the cutting and burning of forests that trap and store carbon—accounts for about another 20 percent.
Procrastination is not an option. Scientists agree that if we wait 10, 20, or 50 years, the problem will be much more difficult to address and the consequences for us will be that much more serious.

We’re treating our atmosphere like we once did our rivers. We used to dump waste thoughtlessly into our waterways, believing that they were infinite in their capacity to hold rubbish. But when entire fisheries were poisoned and rivers began to catch fire, we realized what a horrible mistake that was.
Our atmosphere has limits too. CO2 remains in the atmosphere for about 100 years. The longer we keep polluting, the longer it will take to recover and the more irreversible damage will be done.
Fuel-efficient vehicles. Renewable energy. Protecting threatened forests. These common sense solutions won’t only reduce global warming, many will save us money and create new business opportunities.

Best of all, these solutions exist now. We just need to insist that business and government take the necessary steps to make them available and affordable. Then we have to let consumers know what to do and provide incentives to help all of us make better choices.
The following five sensible steps are available today and can have an enormous impact on the problem CO2 remains in the atmosphere for about 100 years.

Neil: Hello and welcome to The English We Speak, I'm Neil.
Li: And I'm Li. Neil, is that a new watch?
Neil: Yes I got it from my parents.
Li: Oh that's nice.
Neil: Did I tell you I'm going on holiday soon?
Li: No, where?
Neil: To Hawaii.
Li: Wow, how can you afford a holiday to Hawaii?
Neil: My in-laws paid for it. We told them it was too expensive but, you know, we just need a holiday.
Li: Hmm… so your in-laws have paid for your holiday too…
Neil: I'm thinking of giving up work actually, Li.
Li: Giving up work? What about the cost of living?
Neil: Oh my wife can work. You know what, Li? I really need to move into a bigger house in a nicer part of London.
Li: But you just said you're going to give up work! How can you afford a new house if you have no job?
Neil: My grandparents will give me some money. They always do.
Li: Neil, there's a word for people like you. You're a sponger!
Neil: A sponger!? How rude!

A: When I was at university I had no money at all. I had to buy second-hand clothes and I could never afford to go out for a meal even though I had a part-time job.
B: Yeah me too, but there were all these other students with cars and designer labels eating in expensive restaurants all paid for by Daddy.
A: What a bunch of spongers.
B: Yeah.

Li: A sponger is a person who gets money, food and other things from other people without paying. Often it's used very negatively to describe people who live off state benefits.
Neil: Just like a sponge.
Li: Yes, a sponge.
Neil: A sponge soaks up the water all around it. A sponger soaks up gifts, food and money without working. And it can also be used as a verb – to sponge off someone.
Li: It's also a verb 'to sponge off someone.' Be careful to use the word 'off' with this verb.
Neil: Whether it's a verb or a noun, it's still not a nice thing to say about someone, Li.
Li: Well I'm sorry to be rude, but it's true – you are a sponger.
Neil: You're right. I'm a sponger but I'm proud of it. Do you fancy taking me out for dinner? There's a fantastic restaurant I've been meaning to go to. It's very expensive, but you can afford it Li.
Li: He's trying to sponge a meal off me! What a sponger…

Conversation - Cara Membuat Telur Dadar

Yuk kita baca teks percakapan mereka berdua dahulu...

Todd: Oh, hey, Keri! You cook, right! You're a pretty good cook.

Keri: I'm OK.

Todd: OK. I want to make an omelet, so actually this is really silly, I've never made one before. How do you make an omelet?

Keri: OK, Well, I can teach you how I make them, which is the same way my father and grandmother make them, which is a little special.

Todd: OK. Yeah! Yeah!

Keri: First you take some eggs and crack them in a bowl, and whisk them up, quite, so they're quite high and fluffy, and in a hot pan, and you need a pan that's that's kind of small, that the sides go up at an angle. You put some oil and heat it up, so it's quite hot, and then you take your whipped up eggs, or whisked up eggs, and pour them into the pan, and as it's cooking, if you take a spatula, and push the bottom layer of the egg, to the side, to the sides, and then to the middle, so the uncooked egg gets to the bottom of the pan.

Todd: Oh, OK. Wow!

Keri: OK. And keep doing that until most of the egg is cooked so you should have a nice thick omelet and then flip it over, you'll only have to cook that side lightly. Put your fillings on the top and fold it over and let it sit just long enough to melt the cheese.

Todd: Wow. That sounds really good.

Keri: Mm, it is.

Todd: Wow. What fillings do you recommend?

Keri: Um, well, if you want to do a real simple one, you can just use some pre-made salsa and cheese, and that's easy, or you can do something like cut up some ham and cheese, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, anything that you like.
